Understanding Automation Levels

Learn how to control Zaplane's AI automation system. Discover when to use manual review, semi-automated, and fully automated modes to match your comfort level and campaign goals.

Take Control of Your AI

One of Zaplane's most powerful features is the ability to choose exactly how much control you want to give the AI. Whether you prefer to review every change manually or let the AI optimize fully autonomously, you can configure automation levels to match your comfort and campaign goals.

Three Automation Levels

Zaplane offers three distinct automation modes, each designed for different use cases and experience levels:

Manual Review

You approve every change

Semi-Automated

AI handles small changes

Fully Automated

AI optimizes autonomously

Level 1

Manual Review Mode

Full Control • Maximum Oversight

How It Works

In Manual Review mode, the AI continuously monitors your campaigns and generates recommendations, but nothing changes in your live campaigns until you explicitly approve it. Every suggestion appears in your dashboard's AI Recommendations panel, waiting for your review.

What Happens

  • 1.AI monitors campaigns every 15 minutes
  • 2.Identifies optimization opportunities
  • 3.Runs simulations to predict outcomes
  • 4.Displays recommendations in dashboard
  • 5.Waits for your approval to execute
  • 6.You click "Approve" or "Decline" for each

Best For

  • New users learning the platform
  • High-risk campaigns with large budgets
  • Regulated industries requiring approval trails
  • Agencies needing client sign-off
  • Brands with strict brand guidelines
  • Testing periods to build trust in AI

✅ Advantages

Complete Control

You decide what changes get made

Learning Experience

Understand what AI recommends and why

Zero Risk

Nothing happens without your approval

Audit Trail

Full record of all approved changes

⚠️ Considerations

Time Investment

Requires daily review (10-20 min)

Slower Optimization

Delays can miss time-sensitive opportunities

Weekend Gaps

Changes wait if you're away

Approval Fatigue

Many recommendations can be overwhelming

Recommended Starting Point

We recommend starting with Manual Review mode for your first 7-14 days. This helps you understand what the AI suggests and build confidence in its recommendations before moving to more automated modes.

Level 2

Semi-Automated Mode

Balanced Control • Smart Delegation

How It Works

Semi-Automated mode is the sweet spot for most users. The AI automatically handles low-risk, routine optimizations (like small bid adjustments or pausing underperforming keywords), while major changes still require your approval. You set the thresholds for what's "low-risk."

Auto-Executed (No Approval Needed)

  • Bid adjustments under your set threshold (e.g., ±15%)
  • Pausing keywords with Quality Score below 3
  • Budget redistribution within 20% of current allocation
  • Device/location bid modifiers (±25%)
  • Dayparting schedule adjustments
  • Adding negative keywords from search terms report

Requires Approval

  • Major bid changes (over your threshold)
  • Pausing or enabling campaigns
  • Significant budget changes (±30% or more)
  • Adding new keywords or audiences
  • Changing targeting settings
  • Any change with "High Risk" flag

🎛️ Customizable Thresholds

You define what "low-risk" means by setting thresholds for automatic execution:

Bid Adjustment Limit

Auto-execute if change is ±5%, ±10%, ±15%, or ±20%

Budget Change Limit

Auto-execute if change is under $X or X%

Quality Score Threshold

Auto-pause keywords below score of X (1-5)

Confidence Requirement

Only auto-execute if AI confidence is 85%+, 90%+, or 95%+

Best For

Experienced Marketers

Comfortable with automation but want oversight

Growing Brands

Managing 10-50 campaigns efficiently

Agencies

Balance automation with client oversight

Time-Conscious Users

Want optimization without constant monitoring

✅ Advantages

Time Savings

Routine tasks happen automatically (saves 15-25 hrs/mo)

Faster Response

React to market changes immediately, not days later

Maintained Control

Still approve all major decisions

Better Performance

Captures opportunities manual review would miss

Most Popular Mode

65% of Zaplane users operate in Semi-Automated mode. It provides the best balance of time savings and control, typically improving ROAS by 15-25% while reducing management time by 60%.

Level 3

Fully Automated Mode

Maximum Efficiency • AI-Driven

How It Works

In Fully Automated mode, the AI has complete authority to optimize your campaigns within the guardrails you define. No approvals are required - the system continuously monitors, analyzes, and implements optimizations 24/7. You set the boundaries, and the AI operates within them autonomously.

AI Has Authority To

  • Adjust bids up or down at any time
  • Reallocate budgets between campaigns
  • Pause underperforming campaigns/keywords
  • Enable high-potential campaigns
  • Add/remove keywords based on performance
  • Optimize targeting and bid modifiers
  • Adjust dayparting schedules
  • Respond to competitive changes instantly

Safety Guardrails You Set

  • Maximum daily budget: Never exceed $X per day
  • Minimum ROAS target: Pause if ROAS drops below X
  • Maximum CPA: Don't pay more than $X per conversion
  • Bid caps: Never bid above $X per click
  • Protected campaigns: Exclude specific campaigns from automation
  • Brand keyword protection: Maintain minimum bids on brand terms
  • Emergency alerts: Notify you if metrics cross thresholds

Best For

Large-Scale Operations

Managing 50+ campaigns or $50K+ monthly spend

E-commerce Brands

Fast-moving inventory requiring constant optimization

Performance Marketers

Trust data over intuition, want maximum efficiency

Lean Teams

Limited resources, need to scale without hiring

Mature Accounts

Tested Zaplane for 30+ days and trust the AI

Global Operations

24/7 optimization across time zones

✅ Advantages

Maximum Performance

AI optimizes 24/7, never sleeps or takes breaks

Instant Reactions

Responds to market changes in under 15 minutes

Massive Time Savings

Reduces management time by 80-90%

Scalability

Manage unlimited campaigns without more people

Consistent Execution

No human error, emotion, or bias

Best ROI

Typical 25-40% ROAS improvement

⚠️ Important Considerations

Requires Trust Period

Recommended after 30+ days in Semi-Automated

Less Direct Control

You monitor results, don't approve individual changes

Requires Proper Guardrails

Must set appropriate safety limits upfront

Not for All Campaigns

New launches or brand campaigns may need manual touch

The Ultimate Goal

Fully Automated mode is where Zaplane truly shines. Users in this mode see the highest ROAS improvements (average 32%) and spend just 2-3 hours per month reviewing performance instead of managing campaigns. It's the future of advertising management.

💡 Recommended Progression

1

Start: Manual Review (Days 1-14)

Learn the platform, build trust in AI recommendations

2

Transition: Semi-Automated (Days 15-45)

Let AI handle routine tasks, approve major changes

3

Advance: Fully Automated (Day 45+)

Trust AI for full optimization, set proper guardrails

Per-Campaign Settings

You can also set different automation levels for individual campaigns. For example, run Fully Automated on your core campaigns while keeping new experimental campaigns in Manual Review.
